Final Image Preview

1.Step

Open photo that you want break in scraps. We will use this surprised girl.

2.Step

Below this layer add new layer and fill it with white color.

3.Step

To layer with girl add mask and fill it with black color.

4.Step

Now take Brush tool and select square brushes. This brush you will find in Photoshop standard special effects brushes.
Now go to brushes palette and select parameters like below:

5.Step

Select white color, activate girls mask and draw on mask to get result something like this:

6.Step

To this layer add layer style: Drop shadow. Use default settings and click ok.

7.Step

Now select black color and with square brush draw around girl face, so you will get not regular squares but chippings.

8.Step

Duplicate layer with girl, activate mask and go to Filter -> Blur -> Radial blur. Select parameters like below:

Thats it. With one standard brush, few layer effects will will get nice and easy breaking apart effect
